Suggestion for the forum registration

Post by MSandro » Apr 10th, '18, 10:02

Hi, only a small question about the forum registration: Why do not you use Captcha plugins?

Here are two links, hope they help:
Q&A Captcha: https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... a-captcha/
Sortable Captcha: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/mod/ ... ha_plugin/

I think it would be easier for users to have registration form.

We were already using a captcha system on the registration form.

It helped a lot (it filtered out robots such as the one that created hundreds of account in one day before we had it) but, unfortunately, we were still getting dozens of registrations a day that were clearly bogus, mostly from Russia and eastern European countries. I'm guessing that there are lots of humans getting paid to create forum accounts for spammers.

The forums are open for reading without an account, so folks who need answers to questions can get them. Anyone who is serious about contributing (we need more folks like you!) shouldn't mind writing a short email. It only needs to be a few sentences (shorter than this post), just enough so we can tell that they are human and know what GP is.

I can understand that. Of course it should not be a problem for people who are really interested in GP to write a short mail.
